Sunday morning (all year)

Sport (17-19 mph) and Intermediate Ride (15-17 mph): 9am from the Upper Lock café. 40-50 miles w/ 2-3000ft elevation. Details of the current season’s rides are shown on the calendar.

Coffee Group (formerly the progression or ‘progs’ group): 9am from the Upper Lock café. Up to 40 miles around 15mph with cafe stop. This group is designed for people new to group riding that might have a training goal such as their first century ride. Please check  our group on Facebook for route information.

Rider responsibilities

All riders must:

  • Cycle safely,  in accordance with the Highway Code and with respect to other road users
  • Join a group appropriate to their ability
  • Ride a bike in roadworthy condition
  • Wear a helmet
  • Carry basic tools for road-side puncture/mechanical repair
  • Fit mudguards and lights appropriate to the conditions
  • Our time trial has additional conditions — see the time trial page

All rides follow a planned route, posted from our Facebook and Calendar pages in advance. We ask that where possible all riders load the route onto GPS devices (Garmin, Wahoo, etc) in advance. All previous and planned routes are available from the club’s Ride With GPS account.

We will never intentionally leave a rider behind. Rides may not include a stop so ensure you bring sufficient food and drink with you for the ride.

Which group should I join?

Unless you’re confident in your ability, we suggest new riders join our Sunday morning coffee ride, in the first instance.

More information about the different ride groups is below.

  • I’m an experienced rider, confident riding in a group at high intensity for 2.5 to 3 hours. Join sport ride.
  • I have some cycling experience, and am confident that I could complete a potentially hilly 40 mile ride in under 3 hours. Join intermediate ride.
  • I have recently completed a ride of at least 35 miles at steady pace (14mph). Join coffee (aka ‘progs’) ride.

Cycling safely

All riders should ensure they are sufficiently aware of basic issues in cycling safely in a group. Further information is available at the British Cycling website.
